RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — One person is dead and another seriously hurt after a shooting in Rapid City last night.

Authorities were called to a home on the north side of the city.

How many states have older prisons than South Dakota?

Rapid City Police say two people were shot at a mobile home park around 9 p.m. Sunday.

They went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and one of the victims ended up dying.

“I heard a shot and then 2 or 3 seconds later another one. I didn’t know it was gunshots when I heard it at first.  Then I just heard sirens going off, so I looked out the door and there were cops everywhere. I heard them bust the door down, after they asked me where the trailer number was,” a park resident said.

Police found a woman hiding nearby. She was detained.

After speaking with many of the nearby residents in the area, a lot of them were focusing on safety. Saying that they were scared to let their children out or walk outside at night time due to these events.

It is believed the victims and suspect are known to one another, and the shooting was not random.

“Well I’ve lived here for over 20 years and I would say, gunshots they are not a constant thing but it’s not something new. I’m used to constantly having to watch your back,” park resident #2 said.

“I heard the sirens and saw bright lights last night. I see cop cars over there constantly. It really worries me with guns over there. My spouse and I like to take walks in our neighborhood and it’s scary at times,” park resident #3 said.

The identity of the fallen victim hasn’t been released.
