SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — We have an update on those three puppies we told you about back in January that were reportedly abandoned inside a dumpster in Sioux Falls.
We later found out that story wasn’t true.

Authorities say the person who owned them made up the whole story to get rid of the puppies, because they didn’t want to care for them.
Despite all that, the puppies are healthy and growing thanks to a caring foster family.
Meet Birdie, Brodie, and Bo; the three puppies who captured the hearts of a lot of our viewers.
They’ve been in foster care for the past nine weeks with Aubrey Byrnes and her husband.
When they got them, Aubrey says she was scared for them.
“Just making sure that they’d survive the first couple of nights to be honest, because we didn’t know how the first couple of nights were going to go,” Byrnes said.
But thankfully they nursed them back to health with a lot of food, warmth, and love.
The puppies are now 10 weeks old and they’ve already been fixed and vaccinated. They will be ready for adoption in about a week.
Even though the puppies are fine now, Animal Control still wants the original owner held accountable.
“The puppies were never abandoned and there were false statements made and we are working with the state’s attorney’s office to pursue charges,” Animal Control supervisor Patty Beckman said.
The Byrnes’ have fostered other dogs before, but never puppies.
Aubrey says they’re kind of like family now and it’s going to be hard to say good-bye, but they take comfort knowing there’s hope for them now.
“Just that they find a forever home, they get loved, and cared for like they deserve, they are the best dogs anybody; I mean they are snuggly and they want to play and they want love just like any other dog, they truly are the best,” Byrnes said.
