SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Ryan Salinas and his family boarded a plane in Texas at 2:00 Thursday morning, less than five hours after the deadly plane crash in Washington, D.C.
“And so it’s very, kind of a different feeling, obviously a little bit uneasiness. You just have to kind of trust the pilots, trust that everything’s going according to plan and kind of hope for the best. And, you know, it’s one of those deals where you just pray that everything turns out well,” said Ryan Salinas, a traveler at the airport.

Other travelers we caught up with were just leaving Sioux Falls and had more time to process the news.
“It’s a very safe way of travel, but it’s totally out of my control. And I understand that. And I trust the people that I have hired, you know, basically to get me to where I’m going,” said Loren Vanoverschelde, traveling from Sioux Falls.
“I guess the thought crosses your mind, but I’m not really scared. I mean, those happen so few and far between. So, you can’t live in fear,” said Betty Walter, a traveler flying out of Sioux Falls.
The crash at Reagan National Airport is the deadliest in the U.S. in more than 20 years and has captured the nation’s attention. But, experts say flying is still the safest form of transportation.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those that were involved in a tragic accident. And that’s what it was, an accident. Safe travels to everybody today and for the near future or in the future,” said Vanoverschelde.
