BEAVER CREEK, MN (KELO) — A Minnesota farmer is hopeful his new business will encourage people to visit his small town.

KELOLAND News first told you about Sean Mcfarland last fall when we visited his pumpkin patch that he started after his release from prison. Now he’s opening another business in Beaver Creek, Minnesota.

The Cidery is the town’s newest venue, featuring a ballroom, an outdoor patio, and three separate floors.

“We’re taking bookings for events starting immediately,” Mcfarland said. “I think we’re really well set up to have medium to large size weddings. We’re just under 300-person capacity.”

Those visiting today’s open house got a first-look at the inside of the new cidery.

“We were here when it was first built as a golf course clubhouse many years ago. So, to see it transformed to this has been real exciting, and it looks very good,” Dan Ellingson said.

The new addition is also giving people a taste of local flavor. The Cidery will begin serving local ciders this Spring, and its own craft cider later this year.

“I decided to make cider 10 or 12 years ago or something,” Mcfarland said. “I started planting trees and then the vision kind of grew because I realized to sell cider, it’d be great if I had a tasting room and well, if I have a tasting room, I might as well have a larger space for people to gather.”

Visitors will even be able to watch the apple pressing process on-site.

“You’ll actually be able to see the juice getting pressed out of the apples and then eventually into our transfer tanks and into the fermentation tanks, all visible from the view from the tasting room,” Mcfarland said.

Visitors at today’s open house believe the new opportunity will draw in people from nearby areas.

“I think this would be a really big draw. It’s kind of interesting because it’s something very different that we haven’t had before,” Lisa Bork said.

Mcfarland said there’s still some work to be done, but the support he’s received from others so far, has brought him closer to crossing the finish line.
