HARRISBURG, S.D. (KELO) — Spending time in the hospital isn’t much fun, but a 76-year-old Harrisburg woman has a whole new outlook on hospitals after her stay at Sanford Health.

It’s a sweet story in more ways than one.

Federal judge rules in SD’s favor on NCAA suit

Deb Cook was discharged from Sanford Health last week after spending four days there to be treated for COPD.

“It’s a place I’ve never spent any time at except to have my babies and it’s a place you really don’t want to be,” Cook said.

But the best part she says was the food;

“Normally hospital food is horrible,” Cook said.

But she says, not at Sanford. She loved the food; especially the cheesecake.

“I ordered the cheesecake the second day, and then I ordered it twice a day,” Cook said.

She wanted to know who made it.

“Everybody who came in the room I asked where to they get the cheesecake and they just looked at me like I don’t know, well go ask someone,” Cook said.

When Cook was discharged, her daughter posted this picture of the Sanford cheesecake on Facebook – wondering where she could get more.

That caught the attention of Sanford Health, so their staff hand delivered her one last week and again today.

“It’s going above and beyond Sanford is here for all here for good she recognized us by loving our cheesecake so we wanted to do something special for her and bring her out a whole cheesecake,” room service manager Joey Rost said.

Amanda Potter, who is a social media employee at Sanford, is the one who saw the post and had the cooks at Sanford make her another cheesecake.

“We just thought it was a great opportunity to maybe surprise someone and bring them a little bit of joy, you know that’s part of healing too,” Potter said.

Cook says the fact they drove all the way to Harrisburg to bring her cheesecake, left a good taste in her mouth about being in the hospital.

“It says that they care,” Cook said.
