Augustana softball defeats Rogers State, one win from finals

CLAREMORE, OK (AUGUSTANA) — Augustana softball took game one of the NCAA Super Regional by a score of 3-2 against Rogers State. Gracey Brink crossed the plate twice and Grace Glanzer struck out six batters to help secure the Vikings win. 

Augustana took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second off a RBI single down the right-field line. A quick sacrifice fly from Stella Harber brought another run across the plate. The Vikings propelled their lead to 3-0 off a fielding error that advanced Brink across the plate. Rogers State found momentum in the sixth with two runs of its own before Glanzer and the defensive locked down the opposition in the seventh to secure the win. 

Augustana 3, Rogers State 2Both teams shared strikeouts in the opening frame of play before the action started in the second. After a quick first out in the top of the second, Brink fought back from a 1-2 count to earn a walk. An Ashton Dorman single to center field advanced Brink to second. With runners of first and second, Bellis shot the ball down the right-field line to bring home the opening run and grab an early lead for the Vikings. 

Harber hit a sacrifice fly on a 1-2 count to plate Dorman and make the game 2-0 by the end of the second. 

Augustana brought in its third run of the game in the top of the sixth after a fielding error by the third basemen. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Rogers State found success at the plate with back-to-back doubles that led to the Hillcats’ first run of the game. RSU plated another run before the end of the inning as Augustana led 3-2. 

After three quality at-bats in the top of the seventh for Augustana, the score remained 3-2. In the bottom of the frame, Glanzer and the defense locked down the field and secured the win for Augustana. 

Up NextAugustana takes on Rogers State tomorrow at noon. After Tuesday’s win, the Vikings take game one of the best-of-three series. The winner of the Super Regional will advance to the NCAA Tournament Championship in Orlando, Florida.
