SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Augustana baseball team claimed its first NSIC Tournament title since 2019 by winning four games in four days this past weekend after winning its third straight regular-season crown.

“It shows that we’re really at the top of our game,” Augustana senior pitcher Caleb Saari said. “It’s the first time we’ve won the tournament in my career here. So being able to win the regular season and then finish it off with the conference tournament title means a lot.”

Augustana pounded the ball over the tournament, scoring at least eight runs in each contest and outscoring its opponents by 31 total runs in the four games.

“We came into the tournament with some question marks, but we definitely answered them,” Augustana senior Jack Hines said. “The bats were hot, we were swinging it well and pitching dominated like they have been all year.”

The Vikings now head to the NCAA Tournament for a sixth straight postseason, a stretch that started with winning with the national title in 2018.

“It’s what’s happened since then, I think for me has been the awesome part as being the head coach and being the figurehead of what we got going on is just find a way to stay there,” Augustana head coach Tim Huber said. “It’s easy to just have a good year and anybody can get lucky once in a while. And I think we’ve just proven in the last few years we’re not we’re not we weren’t lucky. We’ve put together a good thing.”

“This program’s in a really good place,” Saari said. “We bring in good guys and we develop them well and shows that we really can compete with the best of the best.

Last season, Augie ran to the D-II College World Series, and will look to pull from that experience as it prepares for this week’s Central Regional.

The Vikings have won 10 straight games. They will begin play at the Central Regional against Central Oklahoma Thursday at 6 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo.
