Thought the winter was cold? It wasn’t as chilly as you think

According to analysis of preliminary observation data, the 2024-25 winter was on track to be the coolest winter since 2021 but still ranked in the top half of warmest winter seasons on record. December was the fourth warmest on record, across the contiguous U.S., while January was the 33rd coolest. Despite record snowfall along the Gulf Coast, cities such as New Orleans and Pensacola ended up with above average temperatures.
