Betting on bank shots to make bank

March Madness is all about basketball, but for some fans the games go well beyond the court as they bounce in and out of the casino.

A bank shot out there could mean making bank in here.

At Grand Falls Casino, bettors, like Scott Johnson, love putting money on basketball.

“On SDSU men’s tonight,” Johnson said.

They are expected to win by 8.

But Johnson has a strategy when he’s placing bets. He looks to see who the public is backing, then…

“I bet on the other team; seven out of 10 times it works,” Johnson said.

Shawna Oglesby is a self proclaimed ‘crazy basketball mom’ from Oklahoma.

“I’m in town to watch my daughter who’s playing for ORU and they won yesterday and they’ll be playing tomorrow,” Oglesby said.

She doesn’t bet on the games, but she follows them closely from tip off to the final buzzer.

Don: Who’s going to win it all?

Shawna: Probably South Carolina, women’s, I don’t know about men; Duke for men.

To give you an idea of just how big sports betting is during March Madness at Grand Falls Casino, last year they handled about two and a half million dollars.

No matter who people bet on, most do it just for fun to try and win a little money.

“It’s like an entertainment for them, they come in and let’s say I like Iowa State, I’m probably going to wager on Iowa State you know all they way from now until the Final Four, if they even make it to the Final Four,” Joee Ektnitphong of Grand Falls Casino’s Elite Sports Book said.
