SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — After a relatively cold day Wednesday, temperatures will warm back above average by the weekend. As we continue through the month, bitter cold outbreaks will be harder to come by.
Strong north winds continued today, which helped keep the cold air in place. It was a far cry from the cold outbreak we had in February. In fact, when Sioux Falls fell to 23 below on February 13, that would have tied our coldest low for the month of March in Sioux Falls.

Otherwise, a lot of the record cold in March is in the single digits and teens below zero for overnight lows. We don’t foresee anything like that in the short-term forecast.
But I will caution you about hits of cold air for the second half of the month and into April. But, the bitter cold like last month will be very unlikely as record lows during the second half of March are in the single digits and teens below zero. And if you turn the calendar page to April, the coldest low recorded in Sioux Falls is 4 degrees.
