Black Hills National Forest ‘Bennett Fire’ is 100% contained

EDGEMONT, S.D. (KELO) — The Bennett Fire is 100% contained as of Tuesday, according to the Black Hills National Forest Service/USDA.

The 367-acre fire, located within the Black Hills National Forest, is being held in the containment lines. 90 fire personnel from South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Colorado were still on site Tuesday morning.

Crews will continue mopping up the burned area while keeping fire crews and the public safe at the forefront.

Family: Woman unresponsive after being hit by biker

On Wednesday at noon, the fire will be placed back into local fire crew hands.

The fire, caused by lightning, was first detected on August 15, eight miles northwest of Edgemont and eight miles southeast of Dewey.
