LINCOLN CO., S.D. (KELO) — According to a study from 2023, around half of Americans aren’t highly satisfied with their jobs.

For one Tea woman, finding something different meant a big change.

47-year-old Andrea Abu has recently started a new adventure, after years of working the same job.

“I actually was in the insurance industry most of my career, so it was all corporate America. I did a lot of training, management and things like that, so it was definitely a 9 to 5, Monday through Friday,” Andrea Abu said.

However, for years she’s dreamed of opening a coffee shop.

“Honestly, ever since I could remember, she’s been talking about it since I was a kid,” Andrea’s daughter Julianna Erickson said.

“She’s been talking about it ever since we met several years back. And her passion for coffee, especially vintage, you know, farm house type coffee shop has always been something that she dreamt of,” Andrea’s husband Amos Abu said.

So after encouragement from her family, she decided to open Coffee and More this year. While her end goal is to open a coffee shop, Andrea and her husband decided to start with a coffee bus.

“But this was kind of our first step in that direction. And I still feel like it’s meeting all of those boxes because it’s bringing people, they love it– who doesn’t like coffee? But we have more than that. And we have, you know, sweets and pastries and stuff to go along with it,” Andrea said.

And while it’s Andrea’s dream, the coffee bus has become a family affair, with her husband helping more on the financial end, and her daughter helping from the business end.

“So it was natural for me to support her in that way so that she can stand on her feet and do what she loves,” Amos said.

“I think I’ve also learned like how to talk to people, how to relate to people a little bit more and just be like just have conversations and get to know. People have small talk. And that’s kind of what makes people love us and love the truck,” Erickson said.

And while the coffee bus offers different coffees, smoothies, and treats, the bus is called Coffee and More so that Andrea can continue to expand her business in the future.

“What is the more out there, you know, what are you not doing? What should you be doing? What is that more? And that’s what I want to do, I don’t want to put limitations on me,” Andrea said.

Selling a great cup of coffee, with a personal touch.

“I personally think our coffees are the best, but no matter where you get coffee, it really depends on who’s selling it, who’s talking to you. So I think just having a conversation with people and going the extra mile, ask them how the day is going and being personal, and then doing that more like giving them a little bit of extra, not just the drink,” Erickson said.

While also encouraging others to follow their dreams.

“Don’t be mom, 47 and thinking 20 years ago I should have did it. You know, you’re younger and can be encouraged if there is a way. If you really want to do it, there is a way. So just find that way and live it. Live your dream,” Andrea said.
