Construction zone worker identified in deadly crash

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A construction worker who died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in a construction zone near Wessington, S.D. has been identified.

On Tuesday at 12:55 p.m., a man driving a truck westbound on U.S. Hwy 14 entered a construction zone, according to a S.D. Department of Public Safety press release on Saturday.

Construction flagger Sandra Guerra Ceballos, 44, was at the construction scene directing westbound traffic to slow down and stop, which the man driving the truck had stopped as directed.

A 47-year-old from Mitchell, S.D., was driving a semi-truck westbound which collided with the truck and then hit Ceballos.

Ceballos, of Eddyville, NE, suffered fatal injuries that day.

The two drivers and one passenger in the truck received minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. It is not known whether the drivers and passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The S.D. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
