HONOLULU – A flurry of tropical activity has the Eastern Pacific Ocean making up for lost time. Tropical Storm Hone has now passed safely west of the Hawaiian Islands and out into the open sea. Now, Tropical Storm Gilma is tracking west toward the state but is encountering hostile conditions and cooler waters, according to the FOX Forecast Center. At one point over the weekend, Gilma was a Category 4 hurricane but has since been downgraded to a Tropical Storm.Gilma is forecast to weaken further into a tropical depression as it moves near the islands on Friday into Saturday. In further good news, while it’s expected to bring more rain to the islands, it will be considerably less than the 2 feet of rain that what-had-been Hurricane Hone brought over the weekend. TROPICAL STORM HONE MOVING AWAY FROM HAWAII AFTER DUMPING MORE THAN 2 FEET OF RAIN ON BIG ISLANDInstead, about 1-3 inches is forecast between late Thursday and Saturday morning, depending on Gilma’s track. Though it will not take a lot more rain from Gilma to cause some flash flooding.Following close behind is Tropical Storm Hector, though that storm too will find hostile atmospheric conditions and dissipate before it can reach Hawaii. Thus, it is not expected to have any significant impact on the islands.
