SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A report of gunshots on the northwest side of the city, led to an investigation into drugs, guns and a woman’s death.

13-year-old dies from injuries sustained in RC shooting

According to the police log and a City of Sioux Falls news release, on Wednesday at 11:21 p.m., there was a report of gunshots at mobile home in the 6000 block of W. Tanager Place. The home is just north of Hayward Elementary School.

On Thursday, 44-year-old Michael Spath II was in court facing weapon and drug charges when a prosecutor explained that he wasn’t alone when his house was shot up.

Police found a woman dying on the floor, livesaving efforts were performed and the prosecutor said the woman had been shot multiple times.

Authorities aren’t sure if she died because of the shooting or because of drugs. According to court documents, there is evidence that fentanyl was used in the home.

According to a news release from Sioux Falls police, there’s been no arrests in connection with the death. Police say more information will be shared during Friday’s police briefing.

When KELOLAND News arrived at the crime scene, the crime lab could be seen working on the mobile home.

This is a developing story.
