SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Moisture has been hard to come by this winter as drought conditions continue. The landscape is brown as compared to white as many of us are accustomed to this time of year. We have had past years when the snow amounts didn’t even add up to the little amount we’ve had through January this season.
Proof of rental problems needed to act, officials say
In Sioux Falls, we’ve measured 5.6 inches of snow so far. I found only 4 other seasons when the amount has been below that.
Of those 4 seasons, 2 came around with snow in February and March and gave us season totals of over 42 inches in 1939-40 and nearly 30 inches in 1943-44.
I also compared Aberdeen to prior years. With 6.8 inches in Aberdeen through January, 8 prior years have had less through this time.
Of those 8, 2017-18 had snowy conditions the following months with a total of 38.2 inches for February through April. It gave a season total of over 43 inches.
That’s just an example that even though we’ve had very little snow so far, it always doesn’t finish that way. We’ll wait and see what the rest of this season brings.
