SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — This story has been updated with information from the Highway Patrol.

Multiple emergency responders are at the scene of a reported vehicle that hit an apartment building on the 6200 block of West 43rd Street, KELOLAND staff members said Thursday.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol provided an update Thursday afternoon, reporting that an 18-year-old man was arrested on speed and drug-related charges.

A Highway Patrol official said that the man was driving a 2007 Ford 500 when he pulled alongside a Highway Patrol trooper driving on W. 41st St., making an obscene gesture and then speeding off.

The official said the driver was clocked at speed over 100 mph before losing control of the vehicle and crashing into the apartment at 6200 S. Kuehn Park Ave.

A man in a wheelchair was inside the building when the Ford hit it, and he was knocked from the chair and received minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford was arrested without incident, and Highway Patrol said they found multiple drug paraphernalia items in the car.

KELOLAND News photographer Sophie Hall said the vehicle had been pulled from the building area at around 11 a.m. Xcel Energy was also on the property.

Sioux Falls Police, the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to the incident.
