SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — If you are a fan of the hot and humid weather, we have some good news for you. If you like the cooler temperatures we’ve had recently, we’ve got some bad news.

Rainy conditions and cloudy skies kept the temperatures well below average in eastern KELOLAND as some areas stayed in the 60s for afternoon highs.

But, it will be a return to summer for this coming weekend as temperatures get back to the 80s and 90s.If Sioux Falls fails to reach 73 degrees, it will be the coolest day this month. But more typical heat will return just in time for the weekend and along with it, high humidity. In fact, it will be time to bring back the term heat index when talking about the weather this weekend.

Remember, the heat index is what it feels like with the combination of the air temperature and humidity.

As you can see, dew point temperatures will slowly warm as we go later in the week. 70 degree dew points and higher can be expected later in the week and for the weekend. More typical of a tropical setting.

When you combine that high humidity with air temperatures in the 90s, the heat index will be in the lower 100s. That type of heat index will show up in central to southeast South Dakota on Saturday. While Sunday will bring widespread heat index values to the 100s in eastern South Dakota. So, if you’re a fan of high heat and humidity, soak up this weekend because I’m already seeing signs of cooler air returning for NEXT weekend.
