As concern grows in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean for a potentially future tropical system later this week, an additional area of possible tropical development is under the watchful eyes of the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in the central and eastern Atlantic Ocean.HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHEROne area under watch is a tropical disturbance near the west coast of Africa, according to the NHC.The NHC says the disturbance is expected to continue moving westward over the next several days. Environmental conditions could support some gradual development of the system, and a tropical depression could form during the middle to end of this week in the central or eastern tropical Atlantic.Right now, the NHC is giving the system a medium chance of development.DOWNLOAD THE FREE FOX WEATHER APPThe best chance of tropical development this week remains in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico with the newly designated Invest 97L.The growing concern is linked to the Central American Gyre, a weather pattern known to contribute to tropical storm development in the region during early spring and autumn. The NHC is giving Invest 97L a high chance of development later this week, and Tropical Storm or Hurricane Helene is likely to form while the system moves across the northwestern Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico through the end of the week.
