MIAMI – We may be getting closer to the end of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, but the tropics remain active as forecasters monitor two areas of disturbed weather that could develop into tropical systems. One area being watched closely is located over the central Atlantic Ocean and has been designated Invest 94L, while the second area is located in the western Caribbean Sea.HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHERForecasters with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Invest 94L remains over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean and is a broad area of low pressure that has been producing disorganized precipitation and thunderstorms. The NHC said Invest 94L is expected to generally move off to the west to west-northwest, and environmental conditions appear to be marginally conducive for gradual development toward the end of the week. That’s when the NHC says the system could develop into a tropical depression as it moves near the Leeward Islands and Virgin Islands late this week.On Thursday, a Hurricane Hunter aircraft will take off from St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) to get a better look at Invest 94L.If you plan to travel to popular warm-weather destinations such as Puerto Rico or the USVI, you’ll want to monitor the forecast. For the millions of people in Florida still recovering from back-to-back major hurricanes, Helene and Milton, Invest 94L doesn’t appear to be impacting the Sunshine State at this time.
