NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D (KELO) — Tonight, we are learning more about the victims of a deadly fire in North Sioux City.

Three people died, including two young children. Just days after the fire, family members say they are receiving overwhelming support from the community.

Sara Zupp says it’s been an emotional time dealing with the loss of her two young nephews.

It’s been four days since a tragic fire took the lives of Sara Zupp’s nephews.

‘It’s really hard. I’ve done a lot of crying, and so has my sister,” said Sara Zupp, aunt.

Multiple fire rescue and law enforcement crews were called to the northern edge of North Sioux City early Saturday morning. According to the Union County Emergency Management, a propane explosion caused the fire.

“I just, I don’t think anything could have been done. It’s really just a tragic accident,” Zupp said.

Hours later, crews discovered the bodies of 75-year-old Sharon Allen, alongside one-year-old Erza and eight-year-old Keenan Allen. Zupp says her nephews were with their grandma because their mom, Brittany was in Omaha with her youngest child.

“The whole reason the kids were with grandma was baby boy had to have open heart surgery… The emotions fluctuate a lot. You go from being sad, to angry, especially with us not really knowing exactly what happened. It’s hard to kind of wrap your brain around, especially when the kids were so young,” Zupp said.

Zupp says the fire destroyed much of the family’s belongings, but says the community has rallied behind them.

“In times like this, you kind of do need to lean on people in your community and like, again, they’ve done nothing but be super helpful in this situation. I can’t be more grateful and neither can my sister,” Zupp said.

Zupp created a Venmo for monetary donations. You can also donate physical items, like diapers and baby and children’s clothing to the North Sioux Fire Department.
