BRANDON, S.D. (KELO) — Earlier this month, we told you about a Brandon woman collecting Halloween costumes to donate back to local families in need.
Beyond the rows of corn and creepy characters, this house in Brandon was once home to hundreds of new and used Halloween costumes.

“At first it was slow going and it picked up big time,” Carl’s Closet creator Megan Corcoran said.
Megan Corcoran is the creator of Carl’s Closet, a project where she collects and distributes costumes to families, free of charge. It’s been a busy month.
“I’ve probably helped 50 families and at least 120 costumes,” Corcoran said.
She doesn’t ask for anything in return, but will never say no to a return visit.
“We did a trunk or treat this last Friday, and I actually had the blessing to get to see some of the families using the costumes. I didn’t say anything of course, but it was just like ‘they really are using them’, so it was awesome,” Corcoran said.
Kids will be out in force trick or treating on Thursday, but starting Friday Corcoran will once again be accepting costume donations for next year.
“Kingbird Coffee here in Brandon has a place they can donate and you can donate on my front porch here, drop them off, I ain’t got to be home, just set them on my porch, I’ll take care of them,” Corcoran said.
These costumes have even inspired Corcoran’s friends from Iowa to Texas to look into starting their own version of Carl’s Closet.
“I’ve actually had some friends in other states that have seen what I’ve done here that we’re like ‘I see where this could be beneficial here, would you be ok if I started something like that here?’ and I was like ‘absolutely’, so I know there’s a few other places in other states where they’re starting the same kind of thing, so it’s very honorable,’ Corcoran said.

Carl’s Closet received plenty of adult and youth costumes this year, but Megan hopes to see more teen, toddler, and baby costumes for next Halloween.
