SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The chances of rain Thursday may have put a damper on the City of Sioux Falls Fourth of July celebrations, but Levitt at the Falls is still ready to rock, rain or shine.

Kory and the Fireflies is a hometown favorite for Sioux Falls that always draws in a big crowd.

“So we always have a great crowd for Kory,” Nancy Halverson, executive director of Levitt at the Falls, said. “In the past, we’ve had six, seven thousand people so we expect a good crowd tonight as well.”

The Levitt at the Falls is welcoming the band back to the band shell for an Independence Day celebration.

“When Kory is on our stage, he always brings positive energy,” Halverson said. “He’s so uplifting, the lyrics to his songs are always so positive. A great family-friendly event so we just look forward to bringing everyone together in community.”

The chances of morning rains on Thursday in Sioux Falls may not have happened as previously forecasted but that doesn’t mean we’re completely in the clear.

The good news, though, is that the Levitt at the Falls plans to rock on rain or shine. Halverson says they’ll only cancel if there’s a chance of lightning.

So with your lawn chair, pack your umbrella just in case. And even if it doesn’t rain, it can always help block the sun.

“Here at the Levitt we use a colored flag system,” Halverson said. “So if the flags on the venue are green, it means beautiful weather. If they go yellow, it means we’re in a watch. If we would ever change those to red, it would mean that we would be evacuating the venue and we’re really clear about how we would communicate that. We want to keep folks safe, that’s always our priority.”

Opening for Kory and the Fireflies is The Downboys, a Sioux Falls based rock group. They will take the stage at 7 p.m. with Kory and the Fireflies following them. For a full Levitt at the Falls schedule, click here.
