CANTON, S.D. (KELO) — Auditors across South Dakota are getting ready for the primaries tomorrow.

Absentee voting in Lincoln County has been slow.

“Right now, we’ve got about a 1% turnout. We’ve received 511 ballots back, and we still have 176 of them outstanding,” Lincoln County Auditor Sheri Lund said.

But, the auditor’s office expects voting to pick up during the primaries tomorrow.

“I would hope that we would get 20 to 30%. That’s kind of our average for Lincoln County is the higher side of the twenties, mid thirties, but tomorrow, hopefully 20%,” Lincoln County Election Coordinator Kayla Delfs said.

And with some competitive races in Lincoln County tomorrow, every vote will count.

“Both commission district two and four are up for election and have competition. Those I think, are the most important elections you can go vote on,” Delfs said.

Just like any election, the primaries are a great chance for anyone to have an impact on their community.

“Your local elections decide things that majorly affect you, property taxes, things like that, so go and vote. Every vote counts, especially on the local elections,” Delfs said.

“Everybody should vote. I mean, everybody should have their voice heard for what they want. Do your research, make sure that that’s what you want to have happen. If you don’t vote, then it is kind of hard to say if you’re happy or not happy about what’s going on,” Lund said.

When you vote, make sure you bring your South Dakota driver’s license or non-driver ID card. You can find your polling location on the online voter information portal.
