Looking at what KELOLAND typically sees for snow in Oct.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — While it has seemed like warmer temperatures would not go away, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what is more typical for this time of year: Chillier temperatures and snow in the Black Hills. This has been the exception to the rule, as October has been warm and dry for everyone.

Mundt makes annual snowfall prediction

Believe it or not, we’re already below average on snowfall across nearly the entirety of KELOLAND. We average 1.4 inches of snow in October in southeastern KELOLAND, and I don’t see any flakes coming anytime soon. It’s enough of a struggle to get rain to show up as it is.

Aberdeen and Pierre average 1.3 inches of snow for the month of October, and again…to the surprise of no one…we’re below that. Rounding things out, Rapid City averages three inches of snow in October. Just like the others, they have nothing to show for it.

We’ll see how much snow we get in the Black Hills through Wednesday, but beyond a renegade flake that tries to mix in with some overnight rain elsewhere…snow will be tough to come by at best. But there’s plenty of time for that. For now, let’s just try to get fall, and by extension rain, to come around and stick around.
