MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO) – Our current weather may not have you dreaming of ice cream, but for people in the Mitchell area there will be a new option for the sweet treat once it’s warmer.
The food shack along Sanborn Avenue in Mitchell, formerly known as the Hungry Dog and Zesto’s before that, will soon have a name familiar to people in the Sioux Falls area: B&G Milky Way.
“We’ve always loved Milkyway and we’ve always loved ice cream,” co-franchisee Amy Lepke said.
“We’ve actually been looking at Milkway for a while and wanting to bring it to Mitchell.”
Finally, the perfect spot became available for that dream to come true and construction began.
“Hoping to be done by mid-March, hopefully, late March at the latest,” co-franchisee Allen Lepke said.

Once it’s open, this B&G Milkyway will have the same menu as those in Sioux Falls with both drive-thru and walk-up ordering options.
“We are very excited about just bringing something that people in Sioux Falls love so much to the Mitchell area,” Allen Lepke said. “So we can let the people here in town enjoy it just as much as everybody in Sioux Falls.”
“We’re both from Mitchell originally, born and raised here, and we love our community,” Amy Lepke said. “And we are just excited to bring something new and fresh to Mitchell.”
The Mitchell Milkyway will be open seasonally March through October. They are still looking for employees to help staff the restaurant.
