Next storm in Atlantic taking time to develop as Helene aims for Florida

As concern about Tropical Storm Helene grows in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring an additional area of possible tropical development in the central and eastern Atlantic Ocean.HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHEROne area being watched is a tropical disturbance near the west coast of Africa, according to the NHC.Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave located near the Cabo Verde Islands has become more concentrated since Monday, NHC forecasters said. “Environmental conditions appear favorable for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form in a few days while it moves westward to west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic,” the agency noted in its latest outlook Tuesday.Right now, the NHC is giving the system a high chance of development.DOWNLOAD THE FREE FOX WEATHER APPThe only named storm in the Atlantic is newly designated Tropical Storm Helene in the Caribbean Sea.According to the NHC, Helene is expected to strengthen into a Category 3 hurricane and impact the Florida Gulf Coast later this week. The current track takes it into the Florida Big Bend region Thursday.
