SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — After numerous mentions of our record dry conditions in eastern KELOLAND this fall, things are about to change.

No place to play: Sioux Falls Storm pauses operation for 2025

Cloudy and cool conditions ruled the day in central and eastern KELOLAND. As western South Dakota saw rain and snow, scattered showers and drizzle dotted the landscape in the east. We’ll see how much precipitation falls in eastern KELOLAND through Thursday because my current thinking is we could end up getting more precipitation during the first week of November than all of September and October combined.

Here’s our set-up. Over the next couple of days, the Gulf of Mexico will open up and moisture will start to stream into the central and northern plains.

You might be able to feel some of this moisture too. Dew point temperatures, or the humidity will slowly go up this weekend and into early next week.

Along with the increase in humidity, we’ll have rain chances.

It’s a matter of getting showers and even thunderstorms to develop in KELOLAND. We’ll see where the best energy goes, but I am worried about strong storms that can develop in the central plains, as these storms can steal some of our available moisture. Regardless, it does look like we’ll have better chances at moisture in the days ahead.
