SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Rapid City man was sentenced Friday to 33+ years for distribution of fentanyl.

Cory Croyle, 37, and others were distributing large quantities of fentanyl and heroin inthe Rapid City area between 2021 and 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of S.D.

Croyle, who was on parole at the time of the offense, had a significant role in the drug conspiracy. He knew the deadly risks of distributing fentanyl and yet he continued to sell the substance.

55-year-old charged with rape of minors

The conspiracy led to the death of a person in the Rapid City area.

According to the DEA, two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal depending on a person’s body size, tolerance and past usage. One milligram is about the weight of a small grain of sand.

Croyle and his co-conspirator brought about one pound to 2-1/2 pounds of fentanyl into South Dakota which could kill hundreds of thousands or millions of people.

The judge noted this was one of the larger quantities of drugs they have seen in decades on the bench.
