SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Grand Marshal of the Juneteenth Celebration was spit on while he participated in the Freedom Walk in Sioux Falls Saturday afternoon.

Chet Jones, Grand Marshal, was walking on the bike path with many other participants when someone on a bike passed by Jones and spit on him.

According to someone walking with Jones, he called the police and filed a report during the walk.

After the walk, Jones gave a speech to the crowd saying in part. “As long as hatred is out there, we have to speak up and have a voice. We have to speak up when you see wrong, say so. And use the system because it does work,” Jones said.

This is a developing story. Stay with KELOLAND News on-air and online for any updates.
