As with most years, we’ve suffered a great amount of lost talent through deaths in the rock and metal scene in 2024.The biggest name to pass in early 2024 was Dickey Betts, the legendary guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer with the Allman Brothers Band. News of the musician’s death arrived on April 18.One of the year’s first deaths was that of James Kottak, the former Scorpions drummer who passed at the age of 61 back on Jan. 9. The musician racked up some impressive musical credits over the years having played with Montrose, Kingdom Come, Macauley Schenker Group and Warrant before joining up with the German metallers in 1999 and continuing with the group through 2015.Another major loss came with the legendary guitarist Wayne Kramer of MC5 fame. Though the group has yet to be inducted, they’ve been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame multiple times. The summer brought the deaths of several other name rockers, including Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock, Great White’s Jack Russell and ’80s hitmaker Greg Kihn among others.READ MORE: 10 Bands That Had Farewell Tours That Weren’t FinalWith a few months still left in 2024, we’ll continue to add to this gallery.
