SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The saturated eastern part of South Dakota may get a reprieve from the rain and storms Saturday afternoon.

The extreme eastern section of the state is still at risk, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas near Yankton may get additional scattered thunderstorms after 5:00 p.m. (CDT). There is a possibility for severe storms to form, bringing 60 mph winds and a risk of ping pong ball size hail. If clouds continue to stay in place, the risk of severe storms will be much lower.

For the western and south-central part of the state, scattered storms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening. The primary hazards are 60-75 mph wind gusts and 1″ to 2″ hail. These patchy storms will most likely occur between 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. (MDT).

If the heat is too much for you, help is on the way. A fast moving cold front will move in later tonight, dropping the temperatures. It may come as no surprise to South Dakotans, that we will also have wind with northwest gusts of 45+ mph.
