SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The Sioux Falls Pork Showdown is returning this September for its fourth year with 26 downtown restaurants.

From September 1-30, customers will vote on the best pork dish in downtown. The voting categories include the use of pork, flavor, tenderness, presentation and customer service. Customers can vote and rank each restaurant through the DTSF Digital Passport App.

Blarney Stone Pub has participated in the showdown every year. Chad Landingham, the pub’s kitchen manager, said they enjoy creating a different dish every year

“It gives us a creative outlet to kind of let our guys bring something up to us that they think would go good with the main dish, the pork and just gives us something to play with,” Landingham said.

This year, Blarney’s pork dish is Pikey’s Pork Ribeye, which includes a 10 oz. pork ribeye with rosemary mushroom gravy. The dish is served with champ potatoes, asparagus and crispy fried onions.

This is also Remedy Brewing Company’s fourth year in the showdown. JP Muko, Remedy’s general manager, said the competition is good for business.

“It’s a great way to bring people in, especially with school starting, it kind of starts to slow down business-wise a little bit,” Muko said. “It’s just a fun little way to get people out downtown and back to supporting local.”

Remedy’s pork dish this year is a Vietnamese-style banh mi pork sandwich called “Banh Me Out of Jail.” The sandwich includes house-pickled veggies, Japanese mayo, locally made breads and blackberry nuoc cham dipping sauce.

“We like to do something drastically different from the year prior,” Muko said. “Last year we did a pulled pork sandwich, but it wasn’t quite the same. There wasn’t like the little Vietnamese flair there or anything like that. We think it’s going to be unique enough to bring more people down to try it.”

Other unique dishes include a smoked pork waffle from Phillips Avenue Diner, pork lover’s flatbread pizza from the Cookie Jar Eatery, BibiSol’s achiote-rubbed pork belly tacos and Bread and Circus’ Korean pulled pork dip.

The event is sponsored by the South Dakota Pork Producers and Downtown Sioux Falls. For a full list of restaurants and their pork dishes, visit DTSF.
