SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – During the summer months you can almost always find something fun happening in downtown Sioux Falls on the weekends.

One event people look forward to is the Eastbank Block Party.

The parking lot is blocked off and preparations have begun for the first Eastbank Block Party of the year. Remedy Brewing Company is looking forward to the excitement.

“I think this is really the kickoff to summer in a long sense,” Tyler Jepperson, co-founder of Remedy Brewing, said. “We miss these nights, you know. When it’s really cold in February and it’s minus whatever degrees out, we look forward to stuff like this.”

A world of cultures in Sioux Falls on Saturday

Downtown Sioux Falls will host three block parties this summer out at 8th & Railroad Center complete with music, food, beer and vendors.

“The thing that I like about the block parties is that it really just creates a nice sense of community in downtown,” Joe Batcheller, DTSF President, said. “I think a lot of people come down here to connect with their friends, their families, their neighbors.”

This year, the block party will be shifting a little more south within the parking lot at 8th & Railroad Center. The stage will be back in this corner, facing towards the businesses and tents so that everyone can still take in music while checking out the vendors.

“We’re also shifting to craft beer,” Batcheller said. “So we’ve had craft beer in the past but we’ve got great micro-breweries in downtown and we really want to spotlight that.”

Five local breweries will feature in tonight’s block party.

New location for Sioux Falls Pride Festival this weekend

“It’s a chance to get newer customers,” Jepperson said. “Remedy’s seven years old now so now seeing some new faces and experiencing the heart of downtown — a really fun kind of family party kind of atmosphere is great. It’s why we do what we do,” Jepperson said.

The block party starts at 5:30 and ends at 11. There will be two more block parties this summer on the first Friday’s of July and August.
