CANTON, SD (KELO) — Witness history coming alive during Civil War Days in Canton. See re-enactors stage a battle this afternoon at a 20-acre site on the western edge of Canton, next to Bridge Road. You can also visit encampments, see marching formations and listen to guest speakers share their insights about the war and the Civil War veterans who homesteaded in Lincoln County. The cost is $15. Children 12 and under get in for free.

First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls is hosting a Blessing of the Backpacks during its outdoor service at McKennan Park. Bring a chair and invite your friends to the service which begins at 11 a.m. That’s following by a picnic lunch provided by First Lutheran’s Evangelism & Outreach Board.

The Central States Fair in Rapid City includes midway rides at noon local time, mutton busting at 2 p.m. and a demolition derby at 7 p.m. The fair runs daily through August 25th.

Riverboat Days & Summer Arts Festival in Yankton wrap up with arts & crafts vendors at 9 a.m., a church service at 10 a.m., the Great Plains Zoo Zoomobile at 11 a.m. and a car show starting at noon.

The musical lineup for the Not Just a Phase Fest at Sioux Falls Stadium includes Simple Plan, Story of the Year, 3OH!3, Second Hand Serenade, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and DJ Joey Donut. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. You must be at least 21 to attend.

VFW Post 628 is hosting an All-You-Can Eat Pancake Breakfast. Serving time is 8:30 a.m. to noon at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. The cost is $8 for adults, $2 for children.

Four teams remain in Class ‘A’ amateur state tourney

The Woodcrafts Expo at the Sioux Falls Convention Center is bringing together all things woodworking including tool exhibitor demonstrations plus hand-crafted items for gifts or home decor. The expo runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7, free for ages 12 and under.

The Rosholt Threshing Bee includes a church service at 9 a.m., a craft show at 10 a.m., a parade at noon, a kiddie tractor pull at 2 p.m. and a truck & tractor pull at 3 p.m.

Cool off in the late summer heat with a visit to the City of Sioux Falls outdoor pools. They’re located at Drake Springs, Kuehn, Laurel Oak, Hayward & Pioneer Parks. The hours are 1-8 p.m.

Another outdoor option is Wild Water West water park west of Sioux Falls. Visitors can enjoy the water slides, lazy river, wave pool plus mini-golf from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Heartland County Corn Maze, east of Harrisburg on Highway 11, is open for its 25th season. The 11-acre maze is open from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $9, $6 for children and free for ages 4 and under.

Movies playing at the historic State Theater in downtown Sioux Falls include Happy Gilmore, rated PG-13 and Oddity, rated R.

The Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium at the Washington Pavilion features Wings Over Water, Magic Globe, Zodiac Skies and Cities of the Future.

New in theaters this weekend, Alien: Romulus, rated R.

Enjoy NFL pre-season football action on KELOXTRA. The Denver Broncos host the Green Bay Packers. Game coverage begins at 7 p.m.
