Chicago leads nation in homes susceptible to severe weather damage

The Chicago metro area has the highest concentration of homes at risk for hail, tornadoes and damaging winds, according to CoreLogic’s 2025 Severe Convective Storm Risk Report. The financial analyst company based their inference off of severe weather in 2024. According to the company, nearly 3 million homes in the region face the risk of hail damage, with an additional 3 million homes at risk from tornadoes and straight-line winds.
