UPDATE: Police offer insight into Deadwood incident

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — The Deadwood Police Department sent out a press release regarding the incident on Tuesday

According to the press release 31-year-old Darryk Shrader of Newcastle, WY, fled police over a domestic violence situation on Monday, where after attempts to stop the vehicle it was found wrecked near Lead.

Police then spotted Shrader in a second vehicle the following day, on Tuesday, and found him holding a firearm at the Deadwood Mountain Grand. Officers then barricaded the parking ramp and notified surrounding businesses.

The released added that during the altercation all county buildings were closed and alternate pickup sites were given for Deadwood Elementary students.

The scene was secured and the suspect was taken into custody around 5 p.m.

Deadwood police said that the incident is still an open investigation and further information will be released if deemed appropriate.
