YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (KELO) — No. 4 USD trailed 14-0 early in the second quarter but scored 27 of the game’s final 30 points for a 27-17 victory at Youngstown State Saturday evening. It marked the program’s first win over the Penguins on the road.

YSU scored on a 15-yard pass and an 11-yard run to take a 14-point lead two and a half minutes into the second quarter. The Coyotes scored their first points of the game on an Aidan Bouman 48-yard touchdown strike to Quaron Adams with 9:30 left in the quarter. They tied the game at 14 on a Charles Pierre Jr. 21-yard TD run. The Penguins took a 17-14 lead into the locker on a field goal in the final seconds.

After a Will Leyland field goal tied the score once again, Pierre Jr. pulled off a 50-yard touchdown run two minutes later to give South Dakota its first last of the game, 24-17. The Yotes tacked on another Leyland FG in the fourth to extend the lead to 10.

The Yotes outgained the Penguins 415-346. Pierre Jr. notched 153 yards and two TDs on 21 carries. Bouman completed 12 of his 18 pass attempts for 223 yards and one score.

The Coyotes (6-1) head to Brookings for the State-U rivalry game against SDSU next week. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
