SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) – As spring melts away the snow, it’s revealing an excess of litter that’s accumulated in our parks, roadways, and public spaces.
The City of Watertown is calling on residents to participate in the annual ‘Team Up to Clean Up’ event. Coinciding with Earth Day, the cleanup is scheduled from April 21-26.
A look ahead at Day 35 of the 2025 legislative session
The city-wide initiative will focus on cleaning Watertown’s 43 parks, bike trails, highways, and other public spaces. Volunteering is greatly encouraged, and all volunteers will be provided with garbage bags, gloves, and buckets.
“Cleaning up our city is a community effort,” Ryan Heiser of Watertown Park and Rec. stated.
The City is also emphasizing proactivity when it comes to litter prevention, urging those hauling materials in open trucks or trailers to secure their loads properly.
Crews use mild weather to patch potholes
Alongside community volunteer efforts, the Street Division is actively involved in the cleanup efforts by sweeping highways and snow routes to remove debris and sand buildup.
The City of Watertown encourages residents to volunteer for ‘Team Up to Clean Up’, and implement year-round efforts to prevent litter.
“Let’s work together to keep Watertown safe and clean.” said the City in their press release.
Those interested in volunteering can sign up, by calling (605) 882-6260 or email [email protected].
Good Earth State Park at Blood Run will also be hosting a clean up event on April 26th.
