Wildfire update: evacuation notices lifted

HOT SPRINGS, SD (KELO) — A wildfire burning in the southern Black Hills has grown to 150 acres.

The so-called Green Acres Fire was first reported early Saturday afternoon three miles southwest of Hot Springs.

All evacuation notices have since been lifted.

Two large air tankers dropped fire retardant and two National Guard helicopters dropped water on the flames.

What lawmakers hope to see prison task force accomplish

As of Saturday night, crews were still working to contain the fire.

South Dakota Highway 71, which was closed due to the fire, has reopened, but to local traffic only.

Country View and East Cascade Mountain Roads remain closed.

The Green Acres Fire 3 miles SW of Hot Springs is now estimated at 340 acres in size. Fire is now 45% contained.
