SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — We’ve had some warm days in KELOLAND this month with highs reaching the 80s. But this month is also known for getting our first snowfall of the season.

Here’s a look at how often Sioux Falls had at least one day of 80 degree heat in October and got measurable snow.

Since records have been kept, it’s happened 29 times in Sioux Falls. That’s about 22% of the time.

Most recently, it happened just last year when Sioux Falls had 3 days of 80 degree heat with 1 day of measurable snow.

And it happened in 2020 when Sioux Falls had 3 days of 80 degree heat with 4 days of measurable snow.

This year, Sioux Falls has hit at least 80 degrees, 5 times this month. And while snow is not in the immediate forecast, as temperatures continue to cool late this month don’t be too surprised for that word to be thrown around more often in the forecasts.
