Will storms be severe in eastern South Dakota on Wednesday?

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Severe weather could be sticking around KELOLAND. Meteorologist Scot Mundt shows us why we should be weather-aware tomorrow.

Tuesday brought a break in the stormy weather, but it will soon return. Wednesday will bring another round of showers and storms to the area, as well as a marginal risk of severe weather.

The Storm Prediction Center has eastern and southeast KELOLAND in that risk for severe weather.

Here’s a look at the outline from this morning. It covers southeast South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa with the marginal risk for severe weather.

Diving a little deeper, the SPC gives a 5% chance for a storm to produce a wind gust of at least 57 mph. That chance is for a 25 mile radius for any point in the highlighted area.

It shows the same for the risk of hail. A 5% chance for large hail within 25 miles of any point.

The risk for a tornado is also showing up. It’s a little less, it’s a 2% chance within 25 miles of any point highlighted.

The non-zero threat for a tornado shouldn’t be too surprising considering the setup.As low pressure moves over southeast KELOLAND, cold air funnels or quick landspouts. It will be something worth watching as we go through the day tomorrow.
